Thirty-nine students from Southwest Area CTE Academy (SWCTE) attend the State Skills USA Conference, April 14-16, 2024, on the campus of Bismarck State College. SkillsUSA is an organization that is focused on workforce development. It empowers students to become skilled professionals, career-ready leaders and responsible community members.
South Heart was represented by Jake Streitz and Tony Weems who competed in the Diesel Equipment Technology competition. Jake and Tony were eligible to compete based on their enrollment in the SWCTE Diesel Tech class. In the competition students cycle through stations while testing and troubleshooting engines, electrical and electronics systems and powertrain systems including chassis, transmissions and carriers. Competitors demonstrate skills in hydraulic systems, vehicle inspections, fundamental failure analysis, brake systems, and general shop skills. Jake Streitz finished Gold (1st Place) and Tony Weems came in Silver (2nd Place).
Their advisor is Jonah Nelson. Jake will now have the opportunity to take his skills to the SkillsUSA Championships in Atlanta, June 24-28. A huge congratulations to Jake and Tony at their first SkillsUSA competition.
